His pioneering concept for a modular flexible architecture opened new possibilities - they transferred the same 'model' out of the 'macro' to the 'micro area'. It proved so innovative and brilliant in its simplicity, and gained such a reputation it was decided to transfer the principle into furniture. In 1963 the well-known furniture system was created for Schärer's own requirements in order to furnish their office. In 1965 the USM Haller System came onto the Swiss market for the first time. It became a sales hit after the first major order from Rothschild Bank of Paris in 1969.
In the meantime the USM Haller modular furniture system has gained such broad recognition not only in office installations but also for private interiors that it was adjudged "a work of applied art" in 1988. USM has manufactured the Haller System for nearly 40 years and has maintained its original form by using three basic steel and chrome components: a sphere, connecting tubes and panels. Available in 11 colors, USM's Haller System is used in both office and home environments.
